One of my favourite trends this season is oversized clothes and I have particularly fallen in love with oversized coats.
I often struggle to find coats that suit me, as they often look way too big, but with this trend I have a much wider choice.
If you are looking for an oversized coat it all comes down to making sure it still works with your proportions. I recommend to look for two things in particular to make sure you don’t look like you are swallowed by it:
- The shoulder seam should not fall too far below your shoulders.
- The length should be the same as you feel comfortable with in dresses. If you are under 5’3” I recommend it to end at your knees or even better above your knees.
If you happen to come across a coat you just can’t live without and still looks to big (even for the oversized trend) there are two ways you can play around with to make it look not as big:
- If the sleeves are too long (even for an oversized look) you can roll them up, either inwards or outwards. Another good way to make the sleeves look stylish is to push them up to get the look my coat from All Saints has already to begin with.
- If the coat is too long, there is currently another trend that makes an easy fit for this issue, the Belt Trend. This way you can make your coat appear not as long. However, this only works for a few centimetres. Anything too long and you will have to bring it to a tailor.
Below I have put together a couple of oversized coats for you.
